I grew up in Puyallup Washington which is ~30 minutes south of Seattle on a good traffic day.  My father taught me to ski at an early age and it is something I enjoy immensely.  Prior to graduate school I spent a few years in Teton Valley Idaho, just west of Jackson Hole Wyoming.  Below are two videos of some friends and I skiing backcountry in the northern Rocky mountains. The videos basically star "Tube Park" Mark a.k.a. "hotdog Howard" who mostly shot, starred in and edited the films.  I make occasional appearences.

Part I: Probation

Part II: Treatment

For a while I was a mountain biker until I went on a particularly gruesome trail with my friend Powell Jones called, not surprisingly, Devils Gulch, near Leavenworth WA.  The trail was nearly my undoing.  After climbing 3,300 ft in 12 miles I took two headers right off the top.  At the bottom, exhausted,
covered with dirt clinging to my sweat and laying in an ice cold creek to cool off/clean up I decided I didn't actually like mountain biking at all.  I don't think I've seen single track since.

Occasionally I play golf.  Some who have played more than a few rounds with me know that I sometimes get frustrated at the game.  This is why it is an occasional game for me.  I do enjoy playing, though I am pretty terrible.  I owe many thanks to Geoff Marshall and Bryce Wynn, two college roomates, good golfers and evidently very patient gentlemen who taught me to play.  Without their assistance I would be infinitely worse.  I also owe them the thanks of introducing me to one of the great frustrations in life.
