A large excess of methanol would be effective, but increasing the concentration of aldehyde will be counterproductive because it is the acetal of the aldehyde that is desired. The other solution is to remove products from the equilibrium. Water can be absorbed by 3Å sieves. Write a mechanism for the reaction.
